Kent Sheely is a new media artist based in New York City. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2008 with a BFA in Media Arts, focusing on digital technologies.
Sheely’s work draws both inspiration and foundation from the aesthetics and culture of video games, examining the relationships between the real world and virtual ones. His investigation of these connections is multi-faceted, with techniques that include image manipulation, software modification, machinima, interactive installation, and live in-game performance. Much of his work centers around the translation and transmediation of symbols, concepts, and expectations from gamespace to the real world and vice-versa, forming new bridges between simulation and reality.
